Starting from early 2024, Mothers' Union Ha Wan Integrated Elderly Services Centre - Day Care Service has launched the “Elderly Art Class”, which aims at enriching the life of the elderly by planting and arranging plants, strengthening their cognitive ability, increasing their sense of success, and providing a platform for them to communicate and interact with each other.
During the activity, the elders planted the seeds with great expectation, and the small seeds carried their desire for life and the hope for a good harvest. From that moment on, the elders took good care of these tiny lives, watering, fertilizing, weeding, and every action contained their love and care.
However, the road to planting was not always smooth. Natural disasters brought great challenges to the elders. Winds, rainstorms and other inclement weather made them worry about their plants. They are constantly aware of the weather changes and take various measures to protect these fragile lives. In addition to natural disasters, improper care has also put the plants at risk of withering. But the elders did not give up. They learned from their failures and started again.
In the end, with everyone's joint efforts, the first fat cucumber was successfully grown and the elders were excited to harvest it. However, one cucumber could not be distributed to all the elders, so the ownership of the cucumber was decided by auction, which was a highly competitive process, and was finally won at a price of 6 bonus points, and the cucumber, after being won, was then handed over to the center's chef for cooking, resulting in a tasty cold dish! Afterwards, the elderly who had voted for the cucumber were handed over to the Centre's chef for cooking, resulting in a delicious cold dish - “Cucumber Shooting”.
